Is Your Skin Breaking Out? Seek The Help Of An Allergy Specialist (Brisbane)

A

If you experience an allergic reaction but don’t know the cause, then it’s best to see an allergy specialist. Brisbane has a number of these clinics that can help determine the specific allergen or in some cases multiple allergens, which are causing these reactions through a simple skin test. There is nothing worse than having to live with an allergy that keeps on coming back. It can slow you down from doing the things you love and can also be a source of irritation. Click on our preferred allergy clinic and find out what’s the best way to treat your symptoms.

Three types of skin tests

There are three skin tests that can be used to test for allergic reactions.  These are usually done because they are rapid, reliable, and generally less expensive than having a blood test. The test that will be administered is usually based on what is being suspected as the cause of your allergic reactions.

Skin prick test

This is done by placing a drop of a solution containing a possible allergen on your skin. What follows after is a series of needle pricks or scratches which allow the solution to enter the skin. If your skin develops a red, raised itchy area (called a wheal), then you are allergic to that particular allergen.

Intradermal test

In this case, a small amount of the allergen solution is injected into your skin. An intradermal test is done when a substance does not cause a reaction in a skin prick test but is still suspected as being a potential allergen. This test is more sensitive than a skin prick test but is often more positive in people who do not have symptoms to that allergen.

Skin patch test

In a skin patch test, the allergen solution is placed on a pad that is taped to your skin for 24 to 72 hours. This test is used in determining a skin allergy called contact dermatitis, which is an inflammation or irritation of the skin. Perfumes, latex, metals, medications, and preservatives are some of the substances that cause this irritation.

If you’ve been breaking out in something nasty but don’t know the cause, get yourself to an allergy specialist. Brisbane has a number of them that can help figure out what’s causing your allergies through any one of these three skin tests. Our preferred allergy clinic will give you the right information that can get you allergy free in no time at all.
